TIDNL - A Costly Finale

And what is my very most definite THING I DO NOT LOVE in the world of home decor?

Exorbitant prices.

From left to right these baskets come in at $49, $80, $179 and $179.

Style at Home

How about at night table for $1,250 or a lamp for $695?

House and Home

Woud you buy a trivet for $84?
It is marble.

House Beautiful

The lowest price on this page is $775 and the highest is $5,895.

This brings to a close my month of TIDNL.  It's been lots of fun!  Thanks for following along.
(And do try to resist purchasing that felt dining chair for $775.)

TIDNL - A Swedish Blunder

I'm sure you have all guessed that I'm an Ikea fan.  I love them.  I love that their stuff is affordable and covers a wide range of styles and I love that Swedish vibe.

But every time I walk past this I feel horror.

TIDNL - Where to Sit?

I want to love them.  I do!  I really, really do.  And I'm so tempted to.
But this little niggly voice in my head just keeps wondering...why?

If you want to sit in your bedroom, why not sit on the bed?

The comfy cozy bed that you probably paid a fortune for.

Or is it that you are expecting company?
(In your bedroom.)

This one looks like the bed has a tiny matchy pet.

TIDNL - Decorative Buddha

I don't claim to know much about Buddhism at all, but I'm just gonna guess that the people picking up the decorative Buddha statues from Home Sense and plunking them in their gardens and on their mantels also do not know much about that religion.

I dunno.  It just seems disrespectful to me.

And why does Buddha want to sit in your garden anyway?

But then I also take offence to chubby angelic garden children.

Valentine LOVE

Well I cannot very well talk about stuff I dislike on VALENTINE'S DAY!

So here is a quick peek at my office...which I love quite a lot.  Back in January it got a bit messed up.  I'd received some gifts and they needed homes and there was just some general chaos going on.

Here are the before and afters.

I used a gift card from Ikea to get a new rug.  The old one showed every speck of lint and hair.  The new one is fresh and clean and shows nothing!  See my fab new plant back there?

 My desk needed a tidy!

I wanted more storage space beside my chair.

So cutie cart moved in.

I put a mirror on the top shelf where the pretty stuff sits and now there is lots of room for my Bible and journals and magazines down below.

My office is one of my favourite rooms in our home.

And what would love day be without my bunnies???
(Obviously I love Dino too but not sure he really wants to be featured.)

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

TIDNL - Trends Gone Permanent

Trends are fun!  But guess what?  They change.

So please, please, do not make them a permanent fixture.

Chevron is huge.
But wouldn't a pillow or blanket suffice?

I don't even know what this trend is but how fast are you going to be sick of it?

Normally I would say paint is a great way to add a trend in a non-permanent way.

But this is a bit much.

And you know I love turquoise.

But if I stopped, I would hate to have to take my hammer out and replace my entire built in bench.

Paint a piece of furniture.  Buy a pillow.  Hang some drapes.  Paint the floor if you want...but let's avoid adding a trend in a way that requires a demolition to remove it.

TIDNL - Dipped in Paint

I can't really give you a good argument on this one.
I just don't like em.

Items half dipped in paint are popping up all over the place.
And they are often crazy expensive.

Seems like they should be less since you're missing half the paint.

I suppose they are a good DIY project...but still.

No thanks.

TIDNL - Minimalism

Now, I get that not everyone wants to live with a lot of stuff.  I can respect that.  And I can find many minimalist homes quite attractive.

But sometimes I come across a page in a magazine where I'm not sure if anyone actually lives in the space featured.
These people do seem to own some lemons...

House and Home

It just seems like there should be a way to tell a home from a hotel.
Like a personal photo perhaps?  Or, really, any photo?  Art?  The remote??

I am very sorry that I could not find the original source of this photo but I could not stop laughing when I saw this.  The girl who had it posted in her dream photos had written the caption,
"easy to maintain bedroom".

(And yet there still seems to be a bit of trouble with making the bed.)

TIDNL - Banquettes

Welcome to my first "Things I Do NOT Love" (TIDNL) post.
So fun!

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE so, so many things in the decor world.  But I subscribe to 3 decorating magazines and watch a few shows on t.v. and so there are a few items that I come across over and over again that I just don't get.

Item number one on my list - the banquette.
They are gorgeous.  Beautiful.  I love that you can add fabric to your space and I love how they look.

But come on.  Who is scooching their butts around to get into the back of this?

House of Turquoise

And how is this practical?  How many people can really fit back there?

Better Homes and Gardens

Anyone who has ever had a kid at a meal knows that there is some up and down going on.  Oh, excuse me.  Can I get out again?  Sorry, excuse me again.

Or worse, the person at the edge has to get up 20 times to grab the salt and wipe the spill and make more iced tea.

So, banquette, you are pretty and I love how you look, but you are just not sensible.

For the Month of February

I could go on and on about the things I love.
Sweatery blankets, crystal knobs, milk glass...but since I do not feel up to a 28 Day blog, I have instead chosen to make Feburary the month I introduce

Things I do

Because there are less of those.
Stay tuned.
(And if you are wondering if I got all my projects done in January, the answer is NO.
That whole not setting silly deadlines sort of hindered my progress.
So I will continue on with projects in March.)
